Dear families and community members of Berlin Borough,

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! Fall is one of my favorite times of the year, as it is a time for fresh starts and new opportunities. My name is Shaitra Flores, and it is an honor and pleasure to be coming to BCS as Director of Curriculum and Instruction.  As I step into this new role, I want to take a moment to introduce myself.

I have been an educator for 18 school years. I hold Bachelor’s Degrees in Elementary Education and Psychology, a Master’s Degree in School Administration, and I have finished coursework for my doctoral degree in General Education with a focus on Early Childhood Education. I am currently finishing my dissertation, and I look forward to completing my program this year. During my 18 years of experience in education, I taught grades preschool thru fifth grade, as both a public and private school teacher, and I held the administrative positions of Assistant Director at a preschool and Director of Curriculum and Instruction at a private school. Personally, I am the mother of a 16-year-old high school sophomore, so I consider myself lucky to have experience as a parent as well. I believe that a strong education is the result of a successful partnership between students, school, families, and the community, in order for students to reach their academic, social, physical, and emotional milestones and goals.

I am already honored to work alongside so many wonderful administrators, teachers, staff, families, and community members that give back and support this school. We can all be very proud of this community that supports the education of the children that attend BCS. On a personal note, I have felt warmly welcomed by everyone that I have met in the past two months. I look forward to meeting those of you that I have not yet in the coming months.

I am excited to see the growth and success of your children, our school, and the community. I look forward to working with you to ensure a wonderful academic year for your children!
