• Parental Consent for Identified Students Meeting the Eligibility Criteria

Parents will be notified after the multiple measures of identification are completed.  Prior to a student receiving any pull-out instruction, the parent/guardian must give consent.  The parent has the right to decline gifted services.

    Transfer Students

Students who transfer into the Berlin Borough School District will be required to take the assessments listed above regardless of their status in their previous district. This can be waived if the assessments in their previous district were the same as Berlin Borough.

    Continuation in Program after Selection

Continuation in the Gifted and Talented Program after selection is a privilege.  Students must meet each challenge to the best of their ability.  They must maintain their academic standing by earning As and Bs in all subject areas.  Students receiving anything lower than a B in a subject area will be placed on probation for one marking period.  Any student who fails to maintain grade averages for two consecutive marking periods will not be permitted to continue in the Gifted and Talented program.  Interim reports will act as a warning for students that they may be placed on probation if grades do not improve.  Gifted and Talented students on probation or removed from the program will be reviewed at the end of the marking period for reinstatement.  Gifted and Talented students must maintain conduct codes referenced in the school discipline policy in order to enter or remain in the program.

    District-Based Gifted and Talented Committee

Each year, a Gifted and Talented Committee will be established at the Elementary and Middle School levels.  The committee will consist of the school counselors, all teachers assigned to teach in the Gifted and Talented Program, the respective school principal, and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, who will serve as the chair.

The committee will have the responsibility of (including but not limited to):

    • Reviewing the Gifted and Talented Program annually
      • The matrix of assessments
      • G/T Curriculum
    • Recommending any adjustments or revisions to the Superintendent
    • Providing updates and presentations regarding the program
    • Hearing any parent/guardian or teacher appeals
