Preschool Curriculum Overview

Creative Curriculum

At BCS Preschool, we proudly implement The Creative Curriculum, a comprehensive, research-based program designed to foster curiosity, independence, and a love of learning in young children. This hands-on, well-rounded approach emphasizes exploration, discovery, and active engagement in all areas of development- social, emotional, cognitive, and physical.

Throughout the year, children engage in a series of “studies” which are in-depth explorations of topics that are meaningful and relevant to preschoolers’ everyday lives. These studies allow students to investigate, ask questions, solve problems, and express their creativity while building essential early academic skills.

Teaching Strategies GOLD

The Creative Curriculum is evaluated through Teaching Strategies GOLD (GOLD), a formative assessment tool that captures each child’s growth and learning through ongoing classroom observations, checklists, photographs, work samples, and family input. GOLD is aligned with 38 research-based objectives for development and learning and reflects widely held expectations for children from birth through third grade, allowing for individualized differentiation across skills and stages.

Using a whole-child approach, GOLD’s color-coded progressions help teachers plan and adapt activities that best support each child’s development. The system generates meaningful, data-driven reports that inform classroom instruction. Regularly reviewed for reliability, validity, and cultural sensitivity, GOLD provides accurate insight into each child’s progress. Preschool progress reports, based on these objectives, are shared with families three times a year.
