Bus Procedures
At Berlin Community School, the safety of our students is always our first priority. Please see our drop off and pick up procedures below:
Morning Drop Off:
All buses will drop off students at the Elementary School Entrance.
All students departing the bus will enter the school through the Elementary School Entrance.
Students that walk to school, ride their bike, or get dropped off will enter the building through the Middle School Entrance.
Afternoon Pick Up:
All buses will pick up bus students at the Elementary School Entrance.
All students getting on the bus will leave the school through the Elementary School Entrance.
All Middle School students that walk, ride their bike, or get picked up will exit the building through the Middle School Entrance.
All K-4 students that reside in Lonaconing, Carriage Stop, Enclave, Centennial Square are considered Gold Door walkers and will continue to exit through the doors by the board office to walk home, ride their bike, or get picked up.
All K-4 students that reside in Presidential, Clementon Rd (Holly Estates, Lakeworth, Laurel Woods) Franklin Ave, across the White Horse Pike behind Mt. Carmel & WaWa are considered Blue Door walkers and will continue to exit through the doors by Mrs. Oltman's room to walk home, ride their bike, or get picked up.
Rules & Regulations for School Bus Riders
Waiting for the Bus
- Be on time and at your bus stop location (Approximately 10 minutes prior to pick up time)
- Stay off the road while waiting for the bus.
- Show respect for private property, lawns, etc.
- Stay out of homes & garages and be visible to the bus driver.
On the Bus
- Riding the school bus is a privilege. Violation of the rules will result in the loss of the bus privileges.
- The bus driver and aide have the same authority on the bus as a teacher in the classroom.
- Seat belts "MUST" be properly worn.
- When boarding go immediately to your assigned seat.
- Do not extend hands, arms, or head out of the window.
- Do not throw or yell anything out of the bus windows. This may cause an accident.
- Loud talking, laughing, or unnecessary confusion diverts the driver's attention and may cause an accident.
- Never tamper with or damage any bus equipment.
- Treat bus equipment as you would valuable furniture in your own home or your own car. Willful damage to seats, etc. must be paid for by the offender.
- Assist in keeping the bus clean. Leave no books, lunches, trash or other articles on the bus.
- Do not eat or drink on the bus. This is a choking hazard.
- Keep aisles clear of books, band instruments and other objects.
- Remain seated while the bus is in motion and continue to remain seated until the bus reaches your stop.
- No animals or pets are allowed on the bus.
- No smoking is permitted.
Boarding and Leaving the Bus
- Students may only ride the bus to which they are assigned.
- If it is necessary to cross the road after getting off the bus, cross at least
- 10 feet in front of the bus. Look both ways. Be alert for a danger signal from the driver.
- The driver will not pick up or discharge riders at places other than the regular bus stop.
- Only students who are designated as bus riders and authorized adults are are permitted to board the buses.
