As required by State law, fifth and seventh grade students will be screened for scoliosis at school. Screenings will be carried out by the Nurse privately in the Nurse’s office, one student at a time.
Exemptions from this screening are granted if a request is made by the parent/guardian in writing.
Scoliosis is defined as a condition of the spine in which the spine curves to the left or right. It is most commonly found during the time of rapid growth in adolescence and may progress to debilitation if not treated. The purpose for the screening program is to recognize scoliosis in its earliest stages so that prompt treatment may be initiated if indicated.
If scoliosis is suspected, a notice will be mailed home with a request for further evaluation by your child’s health care provider.
If you have any questions, please contact the Nurse’s office at (856) 767-0129 x 205.
